I’ll never forget the hours my wife and I spent painstakingly measuring cups, redrawing profiles in CAD, and trying to dial in the perfect angle for her laser engravings. Every new tumbler design felt like a several hour ordeal—sometimes longer—and if we got it wrong, we’d ruin an expensive cup. The worst part was hearing her say, “This is too complicated,” over and over. It caused tension and made us wonder if we’d ever really figure it out.
One day, after losing myself in another 90-minute CAD session for a single cup, I realized I was basically leveling the edges of the cup to a flat horizon. Something clicked: Why are we making this so complicated? We just need a quick, foolproof way to set the angle to the farthest points of the tumbler.
I tried everything from cardboard cutouts to pins on a level, but the real breakthrough came when I 3D-printed some simple feet to attach to a standard torpedo level. Once I placed it onto the tumbler and adjusted until the bubble centered, we never had to think about “the perfect angle” again. It was like a weight lifted off our shoulders—no more ruined tumblers, no more tense back-and-forth discussions. My wife used it every day, and we realized we’d solved our biggest engraving pain point for good.
That’s how the Tumbler Trick™ Level was born. It saved us from hours of guesswork and let us focus on creating great designs rather than obsessing over measurements. Now, we can enjoy laser engraving again—and help others do the same.
